 Loriene energizes change through successful teambuilding:
- She mentors LIS students, new professionals, and LIS faculty, contributing to formal and informal mentoring programs connecting LIS faculty with junior faculty, experienced ALA Councilors with new Councilors, and LIS students with faculty of color around the country.
- She incorporates a service-learning, practical approach to LIS education, bringing LIS students and library workers together to develop or enhance services for library patrons.
- She forges connections among people of diverse backgrounds through contributing to efforts such as the Spectrum Scholarship Program, the Joint Conference of Librarians of Color, the Sequoyah Research Center, and el día de los niños/el día de los libros.
- She creates opportunities for people who are often underserved by libraries through “If I Can Read, I Can Do Anything,” a national reading club for Native children, and consulting with tribal community/public and tribal libraries.
- She finds grounded solutions that benefit practitioners through actively participating in projects including WebJunction.org, the International Children’s Digital Library, and the TexShare database program.
- She successfully shares her strategic vision of inclusion through over 100 publications and over 250 presentations.
- She stands strong as an indigenous person, incorporating her cultural grounding as an Anishinabe woman, enrolled on the White Earth Reservation, a member of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe.
- She advocates for cultural expression in the workplace through such activities such as membership in Te Ropu Whakahau/Maori in Libraries and Information Management in national REFORMA, and in the Corazon de Tejas chapter of REFORMA, and in membership and leadership in the American Indian Library Association.
