22 JANUARY 2003 MEETING MINUTES

Next Meeting: 5 February, 2003

Present: Molly Wheeler, Ben Stone, Trish Nugent, Addy Sonder, Traci Drummond, Dixie Owen, Erin Lawrimore, Dr. David B. Gracy II, Catherine Stollar, Daniel Alonzo, Aubrey Carrier, Shelley Aggeler.

Meeting called to order by Molly Wheeler, President, at 5:15 pm

I. New Membership

Molly will send out an email inviting new students to join the chapter. She will revise the email she sent in the fall.

II. Events

EAD Workshop
- Erin will talk to Kris Kiesling regarding the annual Spring EAD workshop. Erin will be the contact person for those wishing to attend the workshop.
Dixie's speaker
- Dixie's acquaintance, Mary Taylor, will be in Austin to give a talk about the Sacramento digitization project on February 11 at 6:00pm, in 556. Dixie will find out if Ms. Taylor would like to go out with SAA members after the talk.
Mexico Visit
Social Event
- Dr. Gracy proposed a potluck to be held at his house on either Friday, January 31st or Saturday February 1st at 6:30pm.
- Erin will get more napkins and paper plates.
Photo identification workshop
- Trish will ask Roy Flukinger and/or Barbara Brown at the HRC about a possible photo identification workshop this semester.
Other Suggestions
- Addy noted that some students would be interested in getting someone to speak about electronic records. Dr. Gracy suggested that someone from the Attorney General's office could possibly speak on electronic records and the law. He also mentioned a woman from the Bush archive who had previously spoken on obsolete records.
- The group discussed the possibility, discussed in the fall, of bringing Steve Hensen to campus to speak about accountability. A local speaker on the topic was also discussed.
- A talk by Georgia Harper of UT systems on the subject of copyright extension was proposed. Molly will contact Harper.
- A tour of the HRC to coincide with its renovation was proposed. Molly will inquire.
- Dr. Gracy suggested a possible tour of the John Tower collections at Southwest.
- In the interest of time, the group decided to work on the events already on the agenda before pursuing any of the new suggestions.

III. Mugs

Traci needs to know how many mugs have been sold so she can pay the taxes.

IV. Website

Minutes
- Molly wondered if the minutes on the website are current. Addy and Trish will see if there are any minutes that need to be posted.
Photos
- Addy reported that we are running out of space on our site. We agreed to only display photos of current members. IF members have photos they would like on the site, please forward them to Addy.
