24 September 2003 MEETING MINUTES

Next Meeting: Wednesday, 1 October 2003

Present: Daniel Alonzo, Shelley Aggeler, Nora Stick, Aubrey Carrier, Steven Cooper, Mary Anne MarDock, Ron Drees, Monique DeLatte, Anne Simmons, Dr. Gracy, Vanessa Cameron, Brandon Burke.

Daniel called the meeting to order at 12:10 p.m.

I. Mugs

* Mugs have arrived and are available for purchase. The Chapter agreed to give UT-SAA members a $1 discount off the regular $7 price.
* UT-SAA officers will be selling the mugs outside the IT lab next week. The IT lab staff has graciously granted us storage space for the mugs.

II. Archives Week 2003

A. Poster Theme

* Concerns have been raised that the public may misinterpret the use of the phrase “Shock and Awe” in the Archives Week theme.
* As an alternative, Dr. Gracy suggested Records Make Right: Archives and Legitimacy.”
* Ron suggested exploring the themes of “Power” or “Authenticity.”
* Daniel proposed that everyone brainstorm possible alternatives and send their ideas to the listserv.

B. Funding

* Daniel met with Student Government and will meet with the Appropriations Committee in two weeks.
* Dr. Dillon has given us $250 towards Keith Watenpaugh’s travel expenses.

III. Guest Next Week

* Next week, Gerrianne Schaad from SAA will visit us to learn more about our activities for Archives Week 2003.

IV. Student Outreach

* Dr. Gracy would like to find a way to reach out to prospective students, as well as current students who can’t make it to the Wednesday meeting time.
* Brandon suggested holding an evening meeting once a month, somewhere other than the Sánchez Building.

V. PCS Mixer

* The PCS Mixer will be held Thursday, 9 October at 7:00 p.m. in the Texas Union.

VI. Capitol Tour

* Dr. Gracy will lead a tour of the State Capitol on Sunday, 12 October. Anyone interested should meet on the south steps of the Capitol building at 3:00 p.m.

Daniel adjourned the meeting at 12:44 p.m.

Next Meeting

* The next meeting will be held Wednesday, 1 October at 12:00 noon in SZB 556.
